The Walk to Get Ahead returns for its 6th year, bringing the Western Australia Head & Neck Cancer Support Foundation (WAHNCSF) community together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people affected by head and neck cancer.
More than just a fundraising event, the Walk to Get Ahead is a chance for patients, families, carers, healthcare professionals and supporters to unite with a shared purpose: to provide hope, support and better outcomes for those facing one of life’s toughest challenges.

Supporting Patients Beyond Their Diagnosis
Every year, WAHNCSF hosts the Walk to Get Ahead to raise essential funds that directly support head and neck cancer patients across Western Australia while also contributing to critical medical research.
The event helps fund initiatives that improve the quality of life for patients throughout their cancer journey, from diagnosis and treatment through to recovery. It also raises awareness of head and neck cancers, encouraging earlier detection, education and community understanding.
As the event enters its sixth year, it continues to grow as an important opportunity for the community to stand alongside patients and their families while investing in research that aims to improve future treatment and care.
Why the Walk Matters
WAHNCSF Chairperson Stephen says the event is about far more than fundraising.
“The annual Walk to Get Ahead is designed to get head and neck cancer supporters, patients and their families out in the fresh air and get some exercise. Exercise is important for several reasons, besides helping with recovery, it is also good for mental health and allows people to take in the surroundings and forget about their worries.
The walk has three distances: 2 km, 5 km and 7 km, and is held on flat ground, meaning it can be undertaken by anyone. The walk is the major fundraising event for the Western Australian Head & Neck Cancer Support Foundation, which provides support for patients and their families. The Foundation also raises funds for head and neck cancer research and awareness.”
Stephen’s message reflects the spirit of the event: bringing people together in a welcoming environment where every participant, regardless of age or ability, can make a meaningful contribution.
