Walk to Get Ahead 2026 marks the sixth annual event, bringing together patients, survivors, carers, families and supporters for another meaningful morning of walking, fundraising and community spirit.

Organised by the Western Australian Head & Neck Cancer Support Foundation (WAHNCSF), the annual charity walk has become an important opportunity to raise awareness, support people affected by head and neck cancer and contribute to vital medical research.

After a successful event last year, we’re looking forward to welcoming even more participants on Sunday, 1 November 2026, at Charles Paterson Park in Burswood.

Whether you’ve joined us before or are thinking about taking part for the first time, we’d love to have you walk with us!

Looking Back at Last Year’s Success

Last year’s 5th Annual Walk to Get Ahead was a wonderful reminder of what a community can achieve when people come together for a good cause.

A total of 99 participants joined us, showing their support for Western Australians living with head and neck cancer. From patients and survivors to families, friends and community supporters, every person who took part helped make the event a success.

Beyond the number of participants, the walk provided an opportunity for people to connect, enjoy the outdoors and show their support for those facing the challenges of cancer.

For some, it was a chance to celebrate recovery. For others, it was an opportunity to honour a loved one or support someone currently undergoing treatment. Most importantly, it reminded us that no one should have to face head and neck cancer alone.

This year, we’re hoping to build on that success and welcome an even bigger community of walkers!

Why We’re Walking for the Sixth Year

Head and neck cancer can affect everyday activities that many of us take for granted, including eating, speaking and swallowing.

For patients and their families, the challenges can continue long after treatment ends. Recovery may involve physical rehabilitation, emotional adjustments and ongoing support. That’s why the Walk to Get Ahead matters.

Now in its sixth year, the event continues to raise funds and awareness for the work of WAHNCSF, helping the Foundation:

  • Provide practical and emotional support to patients, survivors and carers.
  • Raise awareness and improve understanding of head and neck cancer.
  • Support medical research into better treatment and patient outcomes.
  • Bring people together and strengthen community connections.

Support Doesn’t End at the Finish Line

While the Walk to Get Ahead brings our community together once a year, supporting people affected by head and neck cancer is something we work towards all year round.

The Western Australian Head & Neck Cancer Support Group, supported by WAHNCSF, provides a welcoming space for patients, survivors, carers and families to connect with others who understand their experiences.

Based in Perth, the group is run by people who have experienced head and neck cancer themselves. Through regular meetings, members can share their stories, discuss challenges, exchange practical advice and find encouragement throughout treatment and recovery.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed, supporting a loved one or adjusting to life after treatment, you don’t have to navigate the journey alone.
